Hi contrib team,
Today's cruxbot announcements, after recent commits marking several
ports unmaintained, finally drew a reaction from the onlookers in IRC.
I can hardly blame r0ni and frinnst for expecting more discussion of
these neglected ports, the way it used to be done in previous years
(either preceding or immediately following the commit that drops them
or changes their maintainer line). Here's a sample of past threads on
this list, in which the retiring maintainers tried to find someone to
take over their unwanted ports.
September 2007 (Mark Rosenstand)
March 2008 (James Mills/prologic)
July 2009 (Lucas Hazel)
April 2010 (Jose Beneyto/sepen)
June 2010 (Victor Martinez/pitillo)
May 2014 (Bartlomiej Palmowski/rotwang)
February 2018 (Svyatoslav Mishyn/juef)
August 2019 (Alexandr Savca/chinarulezzz)
In some of these threads it was considered "overkill" to list the
unwanted ports on a separate Wiki page, because new maintainers could so
quickly be found among the replies to the thread itself. But the latest
batch of neglected ports has been on a different order of magnitude. So
I've set up the Wiki page https://crux.nu/Main/OrphanedPorts to document
the status of these ports (some already marked unmaintained, others yet
to be acted on). I'd appreciate any feedback on this list. Better yet,
those who have {Wiki, contrib, opt} access can just make their changes
directly. That trail of documentation should satisfy r0ni and frinnst's
puzzlement at the lack of discussion around non-trivial changes to the
ports tree.
Best regards,
John
