I found one more problem: since firefox depends no on cairo and glitz (which I hadn't installed before), it won't run before those packages are added too.

Possible solutions: 1. add another hook to setup-helper (formerly known as post-setup) This is implemented in test1-test3, at http://crux.nu/~jw/2.2/crux-2.2-test1-test3.iso
