There are some ports in httpup repositories which require similar measures, so this will probably need to be announced also on the CRUX mailing list after the switch to the new server is complete. We could consider extending our automated notification for such situations (updates which require recompilation of dependent packages). Some special situations might need additional information, but a general "[incompatible]" warning might save us some work.
