Having duplicate ports is not necessarily a bad thing. Ports in the DE specific repositories are tuned to provide maximum functionality for the environment they are used in. There may even be duplicate ports across the DE repositories, I haven't checked. My point is contrib ports should strictly adhere to the guidelines, DE specific ports should be allowed to bend the rules a little. Making these repositories "official" is probably a good thing, but removing ports from contrib that exist in the repos should be done with great care.
