Hey, I'd like to introduce a idea of mine to make sure I don't forget about it ;-) I think it could be a nice idea to have some kind of way to request software to be ported for CRUX. Before everyone goes wild I don't want this to be public, more of an internal thing: I sometimes find software I think would fit very well in our projects, but don't have the experience with this kind of software nor need to port it. In such a case I'd just create a porting request hoping that someone might pick it up. It's just an idea, you know ;-) Kind regards, Johannes -- Johannes Winkelmann mailto:jw@tks6.net Biel, Switzerland http://jw.tks6.net

Never thought about a notepad? :-P

That is a good idea. An internal list of "wanted" ports could help make CRUX a more complete solution in several fields (server, desktop, thin client...). I'd also extend the idea to /unmaintained ports: someteime I find that some useful progam is no longer maintained and while I don't use it (or use it seldomly) I think it could be a useful addition to /contrib. Don't you have a blowrag where you could make a knot in it? ;-)

Good idea. In Debian it is handled by filing a ITP (intend to package) bug report which can be sent by mail. Then it's also listed at the webpage and in the mailing list archives. I think, this is a quite good solution. Do you have any other (better) idea to do this? Cheers, Daniel -- Daniel K. Sounds interesting. And it could fit well with cvstrac at clc: a new ticket category (port request?) and a custom report (Wanted ports) would be fine. Other ideas? Regards, Simone

My intend was to have this as an internal wish list, which is not possible in cvstrac if we want anonymous user to file bug reports on the ports.
If change notification is not a must, we could use the CVSTrac Wiki, which is readable to everyone but only editable by CLC members. Johannes -- Johannes Winkelmann mailto:jw@tks6.net Biel, Switzerland http://jw.tks6.net

Good idea. Time to fill that empty wiki ;-) Simone

I added a preliminary page to CLC cvstrac wiki: http://crux.fh-regensburg.de/cgi-bin/cvstrac/wiki?p=WantedPorts feel free to modify (or delete) the page. And please correct my horrible English! ;-) Regards, Simone
