Meeting notes 2008-07-22
Hi there, Here's my notes from this week's IRC meeting; again, I'm somewhat late, sorry for that. 1. 2.5 release We want to do a 2.5 release in Q4 this year; most important changes will be the glibc locale generation which we'll leave to the user (see the separate thread), and ld.so.conf.d support. Besides, we'll have the usual updates of core ports (gcc, glibc, perl); hopefully, gcc 4.3.2 will be out, since .1 seems to cause miscompilations of the kernel There will be a dedicated 2.5 meeting. 2. gmane posting This has been requested on crux@, and although no one of the devs at the meeting has tried it before, we believe there's no risk, so we'll check with the gmane guys to make that happen 3. Wiki news & FAQ It would be nice to have someone to take over the job of posting news and maintaining the FAQ on the wiki. If anyone is interested, please speak up. Juergen has moved the FAQ to the Wiki, and split it into different pages. Thanks a lot! 4. utf8 We'll keep C as default, but write an utf8 wiki page 5. Port "best practices" page We'd like to write a page which covers typical "recipes" for ports, sorted by build system and script languages. This way, people new to e.g. python module porting find all the relevant information there. Finally, Tilman suggested to link these meeting notes from the MeetingAgenda wiki page, and already added the links to the previous mail. Thanks Tilman :-). So much for now, if I missed something, please follow-up to this post! Cheers, Johannes -- Johannes Winkelmann mailto:jw@smts.ch Zurich, Switzerland http://jw.smts.ch
