Hi It's been some time now since the possibility of migrating to cdrkit from cdrtools was brought up by Johannes Winkelmann on crux-devel[1]. I made a port back then and have been using it since, burning piles of CD's and DVD's without problems. Putting it into opt has been brought up from time to time, but to my knowledge there hasn't been any serious discussion. In fact, I don't really know how many peopole even want it there. The work this migration will cause is already pretty much done, I wrote some stuff down earlier today[2]. So, do we want to switch cd recording suites, and when? - Antti 1: http://lists.crux.nu/pipermail/crux-devel/2006-September/001935.html 2: http://aon.iki.fi/crux-cdrkit/

Having cmake, libcap and libattr in opt seems not that bad idea. I can not really vote here, but I have no troubles with cdrkit, dvd+rw-tools and k3b working together. If the decision will be to patch growisofs.c a small note in man page regarding default mkisofs binary path would be nice. Btw, this might be the case when upstream is likely to change the defaults (too) in the future. -- Mikhail Kolesnik ICQ: 260259143 IRC: mike_k at freenode/#crux, rusnet/#yalta

I want us to switch, and I think doing it for the next CRUX release would work (ie, we'd do the switch when we branch off 2.5 and a couple weeks/months after we'd release it). I can't see why change if it arn't broken. Regards, Danny
Hey, Just adding my 2 cents since my original mail didn't include that argument... On Sat, May 03, 2008 at 23:32:12 +0300, Antti Nykänen wrote:

So, do we want to switch cd recording suites, and when? It seems that the impact for the users is not that big, however for maintainers cdrkit is just an easier upstream to work with, which IMO justifies a change.
