[clc-devel] rsync switch: guide & date proposition
Hi, Yesterday Jukka and I discussed whether it makes sense to automate the switch to rsync in some way, and arrived at the conclusion that we should rather provide a good guide since the changes are quite important, and the users should really understand what happens there (especially WRT new contrib). I've written a draft for that on http://crux.nu/cgi-bin/trac.cgi/wiki/ServerMigration (second part) It's a bit verbose, but I wanted to make sure that every user can update his/her system with it. Also note that the prt.tar.gz links don't work yet. If you have a moment, please have a quick look and correct my grammar, spelling, wording and the wrong commands I might have used :-). Other that that, I'd suggest to switch ASAP now, and look into any further problems later on (since I believe the things we didn't solve to this point won't be solved in the next couple of days anyway). My proposition is to do announce it on tuesday next week. Please let me know if you either agree or disagree with this date. Also, I've started a page with tasks to we'll have to look into after the switch (and possibly next year): http://crux.nu/cgi-bin/trac.cgi/wiki/PostSwitch Please add your notes there as well. Priorities are up for discussion, of course. Best regards, Johannes -- Johannes Winkelmann mailto:jw@tks6.net Bern, Switzerland http://jw.tks6.net

Yery comprehensive and clear page, thanks.

The guide looks quite clear. Grammar, spelling and wording are better than mine - so there are no corrections from my side ;-)
