Hello. I remember, there was a talk about making mentioned repos official ones... or at at least adopting contrib rules in a way that it could be possible to have: "Depends on: bar" in some contrib port, while bar is only present in kde (gnome or xfce) ports tree. Otherwise someone will either have to duplicate some ports in contrib, change Maintainer field, track changes and upgrades or just leave it in a private repo. ContribRules[1] will look less simple, but if those repos get official status, it may sound like: "Provide all packages for your ports that are not yet in official repos" [1] http://crux.nu/Main/ContribRules P.S. I know, the word "official" sounds a little odd in crux development context. -- Mikhail Kolesnik ICQ: 260259143 IRC: mike_k at freenode/#crux, rusnet/#yalta

Having duplicate ports is not necessarily a bad thing. Ports in the DE specific repositories are tuned to provide maximum functionality for the environment they are used in. There may even be duplicate ports across the DE repositories, I haven't checked. My point is contrib ports should strictly adhere to the guidelines, DE specific ports should be allowed to bend the rules a little. Making these repositories "official" is probably a good thing, but removing ports from contrib that exist in the repos should be done with great care. Not all of us use a kde/gnome/xfce. -- Lucas Hazel <lucas@die.net.au> ================================================= "Clothes make the man.
