Did you guys with the "search" argument read my proposition at all? You'd still have all your ports, they'd simple be in other subdirectories of /usr/ports instead of in /usr/ports/unmaintained.
whoops, sorry, I guess I didn't read it closely enough.
Since I know that you guys don't have the time to manage the unmaintained ports I suggested you leave the management to the original contributors. Or finally start to implement a ports upload feature for the unmaintained section - since you don't guarantee anything anyway this can't do any harm.
I'd be willing, if anyone was interested, in managing unmaintained ports. I don't mean keeping them up to date myself, but I could be the person to contact if you update one, and I could check it out and then put the update up on the repository. That way, you wouldn't be restricted to having only one person keeping a port up to date or worrying about if someone was going to continue to keep one up to date, and when a new version came out, the first update that came in would be added, which might be quicker than waiting for a single person to do it. I think this would also encourage people who don't have the time to be full-time maintainers to contribute in at least some way. Anyway, what does everyone think of that? -Paul Bonser _________________________________________________________________ Cheer a special someone with a fun Halloween eCard from American Greetings! Great! Although in the meantime I've learned that some of the current maintainers don't mind updating unmaintained ports from time to time - I've just spoken to the wrong ones before. But I still think it would be great if someone maintained the unmaintained collection :-) Markus. -- Markus Ackermann <maol@symlink.ch> http://maol.ch/ http://symlink.ch/
