Hello, I transfered the second release candidate of CRUX 2.1.1-64bit[1] to crux.danm.de yesterday. Changes: ======== - Libidn moved from opt to core (thanks Terry), - grub's xfs problem solved (thanks Matt), - some port updates and - the boot image uses syslinux 3.09 (instead of 3.11) again. I've tested the following systems so far: 64bit (Intel EMT64/AMD64) ========================= o Fujitsu Siemens Computers Scenic W620 i915G (Intel P4 64bit) => ISO booted successfully. o Fujitsu Siemens Computers SCALEO P (Athlon64 3700+) => ISO booted successfully. o HP Proliant DL360 G4(Intel P4 64bit) with Smart Array 6i (SCSI RAID1) => ISO booted successfully, all RAIDs were detected and were accessible. I had loved to test more server machines but this small flounder was the only one lying around. 32bit (Intel) ;-) ================= o Fujitsu Siemens Computers Lifebook S4572 (Intel PIII 750) => After pressing F12 for choosing CD as primary boot device the bootloader "isolinux" started. Of course, CRUX could not boot (Kernel said: "Use a 32bit distribution"). Hi. Q1. Does anyone know if the new rc1 will compile libast and run eterm without flaws? I had it compiled but it looks like crap. Q2. Has anyone managed to run GtkRadiant ( http://www.qeradiant.com/ ) on an AMD64? Cheers. Jan

Hello, the first release candidate of CRUX 2.1.1-64bit is ready and available for download. http://crux.danm.de/files/iso/2.1.1-64bit/ Most significant changes are: - glibc 2.3.6 with AMD64 patches and linuxthreads + native posix threads. NPTL libraries are placed in /lib64/tls and /usr/lib64/tls. - gcc 4.0.2 - x11 6.9.0 - pkgutils with 64bit enhancements - No conflicting compat32/core/opt ports anymore. If you want the 32bit version of firefox you have to install both, core/firefox and compat32/firefox32. Both ports share arch-independent files (/usr/share, /usr/include, ..). 32bit applications usually have '32' as suffix (firefox32,mplayer32,..) An upgrade from CRUX-2.1-gcc4-head to CRUX 2.1.1 seems to be flawlessly feasible - at least it worked well for me :-). Don't forget to deinstall nvidia before - and - replace your old /etc/pkgmk.conf with the newer one found in /var/lib/pkg/rejected/etc/ after the update. No application recompilations were needed because the *-HEAD ISO was delivered with gcc4. If you create your own 32bit ports have a look at /etc/pkgmk.conf. You can specify a 32bit architecture with 'arch=xxx'. An example: [..] name=flex32 version=2.5.31 release=2 arch=i686 [..] If you have any questions please use this (public) mailinglist. The only "big" changes you'll have to keep an eye on are glibc 2.3.6 - which is binary compatible to the old one - and X11R6.9. If you own an nvidia card I highly recommend you to DEINSTALL the nvidia package during CRUX update. Firefox32 depends now on firefox(64bit). Last but not least you should use the newest pkgutils (+ /etc/pkgmk.conf!! -> /var/lib/pkg/rejected/etc/pkgmk.conf) because I put 64/32bit logic in there. Hi. I've installed Crux64 but theres some programs that i cant use (GtkRadiant for example) I'm thinking of installing avanilla Crux instead. Has anyone done some kind of benchmark compairing Crux64 with a vanilla Crux on the same machine? Is the loss in performance that big? Jan Pålsson aka zlotnik in #crux@freenode

Hello, for those who are interested in: I'm still working on CRUX 2.1.1 64bit. I came across some problems with glibc and x11 which took me a lot of time. However, here are the key changes so far: - glibc 2.3.6 with linuxthreads AND Native Posix Threads (nptl) linuxthreads -> lib64/*.so nptl -L lib64/tls/*.so I hope I'll get UML-Linux running this time.. - xorg 6.9.0 I got 'segmentation faults' without "-fno-strict-aliasing". If I get any further problems I'll move back to 6.8.2 :-( - gcc 4.0.2 - pkgutils with arch extension (arch=.. in Pkgfile). See [1] for further information. - the ports directory reflects crux.nu's new structure: /usr/ports/{core,opt,contrib,compat32} The ports are not accessable through crux.nu's SVN yet.
