Hello list, What would be a good number for the blocksize of an ext3 root-filesystem. My root-fs is 4.7 Gb and it keeps everything instead of home. After installation of crux and some additional packages (linux, gnuplot, tetex, prolog, xemacs, lmbench) and keeping the sources - there are 3.5 Gb in use (2.0 Gb for sources where only tetex takes 865 Mb). Are these common values? Is it possible that these numbers are too big and that this is due to my blocksize? I guess i have a default value... A directory node taks 4k. Is this my blocksize? What would be a good value? How do i figure out the exact value? How is the blocksize related to the pagesize? Do they have to be equal? Is there a problem with a too low blocksize, is there any? Server Migration documentation rsync update

Hello! I've just tempted to follow http://crux.nu/Main/ServerMigration to get an pretty old CRUX2.1 server updated from the old ports collection to the new one. The ports.prt.tar.gz part works fine but rsync-2.6.7 is not available at samba.org at the mentioned place. It's 2.6.8 now. After updating the Pkgfile and the md5, everything seems to work fine. Can you please update your rsync.prt.tar.gz? Attached are my changes. Beside that, the document is fine! Next step would be a CRUX 2.1 to CRUX 2.2 migration. A link to some documentation for that would be fine... Setting up sendmail

Hello again, I'm trying to setup sendmail on my dyndns address so that people in my company might use it as a smtp server. Is this possible with crux? How do I open up for externally use, possibly requiring some authentication to avoid misuse. I know this doesn't have directly with the crux kernel to do, but maybe you could point me to some "newbie" docs on this, I found the document http://www.sendmail.org/doc/sendmail-current/doc/op/op.pdf, but the document were just overwhelming... Hello, I've been trying lately to attach my crux server to a network with a Thompson SpeedTouch ADSL router as a backbone. I'm also able to access this machine from other PC's on the network, so things look promising. However, I'm not able to reach internet like I do from other Windows PC's on the same network. How come? Bittorrent Error

When trying to use bittorrent after depinst I got the following error. traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/bin/bittorrent", line 177, in ? ImportError: No module named gtk Installing pygtk allowed it to run. I'm a little new to all this. Is bittorrent or gtk not configured correctly or is bittorrent dependent on pygtk?

udev: DVB and network device hotplug handling

Hi, We updated core/udev to handle DVB (Digital Video Broadcasting) cards, however since we lack the proper hardware to test it we'd appreciate if those with such hardware available could give 0.96-3 a try and report back whether or not it works. In addition, there's another udev related port to handle hotplug events of network interfaces, opt/udev-netif-hotplug-handler. It installs a handler to listen to "add" and "remove" events of network devices, allowing to automatically configure a device when it's plugged in. There's a README included in the port which explains how to set it up. Typically, this can be used to assign an IP when a wifi card is plugged in, or when a usbnet device becomes available. indefinite leave of absence (looking for a new KDE maintainer)

Hi, At the end of August I'll be taking an indefinite leave of absence from CRUX development, due to the ever increasing amount of time needed to do schoolwork, and the beginning of my hardest semester yet. At this time I'll be ceasing maintenance of my httpup repository (http://members.shaw.ca/nick.steeves/ports) although it will no longer be accessible via httpup, I will transition to hosting a tarball of its ports. Ideally I'd like to find someone to maintain two httpup repositories: kde.httpup (kdelibs, kdebase, kdeartwork, etc.), and kde-extra.httpup (with all of the KDE stuff from my personal repository). It seems reasonable to presume that should this person maintain them well, then he or she could possibly join CRUX as the KDE maintainer, due to the experience gained while maintaining the httpup repositories. Any volunteers? Last night I built KDE-3.5.4, but won't have the time to test it thoroughly, so haven't committed it to SVN, but have instead put it in my personal repository. If I hear that it works great, without issues, for a few people then I'll certainly check it in...but I'm transitioning out of my CRUX responsibilities, so don't want to commit to supporting a new release just yet. As for the rest of my ports: I'll be transferring them to Younès, although, as always, I'm sure duplicates may occur. ;-) On a more serious note, it seems worth duplicating a really nice port, if only to maintain it as part of contrib (digikam, for example...) Who knows, perhaps someone with a digital camera will want to make digikam part of opt? I don't own a digital camera, so only use it as a content manager for photos from friends, or the occasional photo CD, which is why I can't justify maintaining it as part of opt. Well anyways, it's been fun, educational, and an overall good experience working on CRUX for the past two years. I hope to get an email or two back from hopeful KDE advocates. Cheers, Nick
