SATA drives not recognized

Kernel 2.6.17.3 does not properly load the IDE disks that are attached to an onboard raid-controller Promise PDC200378 (aka Fastrak 378 or Fastrak S150 TX4) which resides on an MSI 865PE-NEO FISR2 motherboard as a "south bridge" for a maximum of two IDE disks and two SATA disks. I configured the BIOS for two IDE disks and RAID1, but the same thing happens when I configure this as SATA. These errors seen in the dmesg file as error messages (attached): ata1: SATA link down (SStatus 0) scsi0 : sata_nv ata2: SATA link down (SStatus 0) scsi1 : sata_nv The motherboard BIOS and Promise BIOS think everything is just fine. Perhaps I am lacking the correct drivers but the ones on http://www.promise.com/support/download/download2_eng.asp?productId=108&cat… aren't much help. There are also some old versions for redhat, suse, and mandrake, which aren't exactly what I need: http://www.promise.com/support/download/download2_eng.asp?productId=108&cat… http://www.promise.com/support/download/download2_eng.asp?productId=108&cat… So my questions are: a) is this a driver problem or did I miss something in .config (attached). b) if so, are there any other available drivers that can be used on Crux 2.2? c) if not, can I adapt the ones above? d) or else, should I go for some other piece of hardware (e.g. an ITE8212f)? Hi guys, I'm quit new to the crux community but i really like it - it's one of the best distribution i used so far (the ports system is really great and crux linux is so kiss). But there are is one point where crux can not keep up with other distributions and that is the help for "crux newbies" (i don't meen linux newbies for this species maybe a other disti. is better...). There is quit a good documentation but the only way where a user can ask questitions are irc or the mailinglist. I like irc and mailinglists, but forums are quit normal for every distribution and they have disadvantage but they also advantages specialy for new users. And forums are mostly better adoptive then mailinglists - so nearly every distri. have a forum only crux linux have none. Hence i have simply put a forum under the domain crux-forum.com. please review and maybe someone can put a link at crux.nu to the forum ? I respect Johannes thoughts about a forum and we will follow them: 1. for this to work, motivated CRUX _users_ must take the responsibility to provide help/support there 2. the mailing list is authoritive and the place for "official" discussion. Some ports need addressing!

Hello folks! I have some ports that all not working! J2re : will not ever download only gets partial then dies psmisc : keeps having a .md5sum mismatch firefox-flash-plugin : keeps having a .md5sum mismatch I donot mind trying to fix some of these issues, however, I am not familiar or do not know how to long or do what needs to be done. I can say for sure though, that this needs to be addressed because I depend on this OS for school and it is not convenient to have to try to keep working around issues of mismatched md5sums......Maybe you could ask if we can all take a package or two so we can keep it updated cleanly and on time. "Packager" field

Hi, I've noticed that many of the recent port adoptions in opt and core have only changed the Maintainer: field and not added a Packager: field for the previous maintainer. In the past I've also noticed a bunch of commits pretty much randomly changing those fields, in particular some of sten's (danm's previous) ports. Personally I've always wondered what that sort of useless information is doing in an otherwise sparse system like CRUX ports. Sure, the creator of the port could get some credit, but really, creating a port is usually a matter of seconds for the autotools-based ones, minutes for others (in general) and a couple of hours for the really tricky/polished ones. I also tend to think that the Maintainer: field could be left out and a repo-wide contact address be used instead (being a virtual one for repos with multiple maintainers) - but it does make sense for 'contrib' in its current form, at least, so lets leave that out for today. Anyway, it'd be nice to reach some consensus and see some consistency with the use of that field. Is the info useful? Could it be located elsewhere, e.g. commit messages? If not, wouldn't (multiple) Contributor: fields make more sense, or will there always be at most 2 people contributing to a port?

And no i think i'm the only one that has yelled for quite a while, it get the desired effect, got your attention. we are a small distro, we arent gentoo, or ubuntu, a forum will fail, and the ML will and has always come out on top. Hitoshi, forwarded as per your request. Now I'm going to comment on it :) If Crux adoption was bigger I may agree that segregating the forum could be a good idea. Thus letting the developers develop and letting the users use. But... the Crux user base is not that big. I don't believe the Crux mailing list is not solely for crux developments. Unless I am mistaken I think anything Crux happens here. Crux is a fairly small community (comparatively). By having a segregated forum you will not have all/as many knowledgeable users to look at your issue. I for 1 will prob not sign up (being the most unknowledgeable one here, prob not a loss). I prefer to have the request for help to come to me, not to have to go looking for them. You also get duplication of content. Also I believe other non official crux forums (and projects) have sprouted up and died. Unless it is official (or has a really dedicated admin) be aware that any knowledge gathered will probably disappear if the forum dies. Can't boot into multi-user mode

Hi CRUXers! I'm using CRUX 2.1. Yesterday I compiled a new kernel (2.6.13-3) because I needed inotify (file system event monitoring). As the subject already says, it gets stuck during the multi-user phase. If I set inittab to '1' (single-user) it all goes well. But whenever I want to go back to level 2, the system hangs. Help wanted, Robin
