Hi Using CRUX 2.2 (now) I upgrade my Crux server from 2.1 --> 2.2 Crux (I read the ServerMigration Doc.) Everything went fine, but after update Perl from 5.8.6 to 5.8.8 via prt-get nothing of my application work anymore. The application search for the 5.8.6 and not to 5.8.8 . I got errors like Can't locate Text/ParseWords.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.6/linux /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.6 and so on But the Text/ParseWords.pm is under /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.8 :-) Anyone who can help me, could this be an Environment config ?? Auto pkgfile updates

I've used the version comparing code from prt-get (a bit tweaked) to create a standalone app called 'vercmp'. Along with a shell script I put together called pkgupdate (does this interfere with any other tools that i don't know about?) you can for example have a cron job which will scan your crux repo, reading in the Pkgfiles and attempt to find the latest version from the source url given. It's not 100% because some projects like to change up their versioning syntax... but it works pretty well for me. I think the only thing left is to make it create md5sum files. Perhaps attempt to do a full package build to confirm it'll work. My repo was listed on the ports page but it seems to have disappeared so I'll reregister. How to get a copy of an old, removed port?

I've been gone for a while, and I noticed that the 'shorewall' port was removed a few months back for lack of a maintainer. I don't have a copy of it, and while I could put one together myself, I'd rather save the work. Is there an easy way to look at old versions of the repos? I tried doing an SVN checkout according to the wiki instructions <http://crux.nu/Main/SvnHowTo>, hoping I could look through the old revisions until I found it, but I keep getting 405 errors from the server. Also, if anyone has a copy of the 'shorewall' port from the last year, that would solve this, too. -Ryan

GUI Installer

Hi, i've question. At the moment I am building a GUI Installer for CRUX and I want to ask if there a some Interessts on it. Its based on GTKFB ( GTK - DirectFB - Backend) so that it won't take many space on a CD (10~MB its not finished today). I think to use CRUX is a very simpel thing, but the Installation is to difficult for some people who are not so confirm in Linux. You can't rely on add on modules to work across installations. That's where CPAN.pm's autobundle comes particularly useful. But then endless discussions tend to arise as to whether it's better to use perl's own module installation facilities or distro's tools. Well, there's certainly something wrong going on. What does perl -le 'print for @INC' print out? In doubt, you may want to experiment with adding directories to the PERL5LIB environment variable. Naming ports

Hi, I've just removed the device-mapper port from contrib because opt has a "libdevmapper" port of the same project. Thanks to Alan Mizrahi and Simon Gloßner for noticing. This shows how redundant work can happen because of badly chosen port names. So, perhaps a naming scheme could be set up to aviod such in the future. Personally I use the wording I'd use when mentioning the project, e.g. "do you have a recent version of mesa?" - not mesa3d.
