Hi List, I'd like to build a new Linux disttribution based on Crux2.6. Is there a doc/tuto which will help me start on that as I'm really new? Does someoine tried that before? Thanks /F

Is it also possible that I place polish translation of documentation on my website? You know, popular distros like debian, slack, arch, centos have their own polish sites...or sites which advertise and support them. Is it possible for me to do the same with Crux? Greetings, Peter :)

Crux on RAID/LVM (bootloader)

Hi, Have any of you successful install CRUX on software RAID? I would like to have (if possible): RAID 1 on sda and sdb, with md0p1 as a boot partition and md0p2 as LVM group with root and other partition. Installation went fine, but both LILO and GRUB don't want to cooperate. Any ideas? Kernel building issue

Hi, I have tried to built a linux kernel for Dell T3500 with Intell ICH10 chip and have been failing so far. The error seems to be related to AHCI. The last messages are that loop module has been loaded and next about controller cannot do SNFT, terminiting off CAP_SNFT and next controller reset failling and many line of ahcp: [...] failed to stop engines (-5). Any ideas what I have omitted in kernel? Ubuntu seems to work fine on the box. Crus 2.6->2.7 update breaks gegl, pypanel

I have had problems rebuilding both these packages. In the case of gegl, I get the following errors: CC svg_load_la-svg-load.lo CCLD svg-load.la /bin/sed: can't read /usr/lib/libpng12.la: No such file or directory libtool: link: `/usr/lib/libpng12.la' is not a valid libtool archive ...... make[3]: *** [svg-load.la] Error 1 make[3]: Leaving directory `/usr/ports/opt/gegl/work/src/gegl-0.1.2/operations/external' The problem is that svg-load.la refers to both libpng12 (no longer present) and the current libpng14. I don't know why, as there is no reference to libpng12 in any of the makefiles or in config. I was able to work around this by creating temporary links (libpng12.la and libpng12.so) to libpng14.la and libpng14.so. Gegl could then be built and the gimp seems to work with this gegl. In the case of pypanel, the problem is with the built-in setup.py script, which fails to find python-xlib (it's actually in /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/). I can't fix this as I know absolutely nothing about python. Any help would be appreciated. -- Hazel Russman <hazel_russman(a)yahoo.co.uk>

Bug in udev rules? [Crux on RAID/LVM (bootloader)]

I guess my mixture of RAID and LVM cause the issue for LILO. What I have RAID on whole disks sda and sdb. on that I have two partition /dev/md0p1 - boot /dev/md0p2 - LVM2 with volume group main and partition - root - local lilo -m returns [...] Using BIOS devices code 0x80 for RAID boot blocks Reading boot sector from /dev/md0 Fatal: Sorry, don't know how to handle device 0x10300 I have mad additional research I it might be udev error: ls -l /dev/md0* brw-rw---- 1 root disk 9, 0 Oct 25 12:41 /dev/md0 brw-rw---- 1 root disk 259, 0 Oct 25 12:27 /dev/md0p1 brw-rw---- 1 root disk 259, 1 Oct 25 12:41 /dev/md0p2 And I have found following message [1]: "Almost certainly some udev configuration going wrong. What distro are you running? Is there are file in /lib/udev/rules.d or /etc/udev/rules.d with 'md' in the name? What is in that file? Prior to 2.6.28, normal md devices (major number 9) could not be partitioned. You needed to use "mdp" devices (major number close to 254). To get autodetect to create these use the kernel parameter "raid=partitionable". In 2.6.28, partitions don't have to have the same major number as the base device. In you case, md0 is 9,0 md1 is 9,1 md1p1 is 259,0 md1p2 is 259.1 md1p3 is 259,2 as you can see, the device nodes have been created with the wrong name. In each case the name used is md followed by the last digit of what should have been used. udev is the only thing that could have done that." Do you think this is the issue?
