why not systemd

As many of you know I try to port Cinnamon to Crux. But on the road I saw that many things depend on systemd. So I wonder why Crux is one of the last distros who refuses to use it. I ask this because on Cinnamon we have two choices: - use systemd. - use polkit, consolekit and pam. and make our own sysvinit scripts for some services like colord and polkit-gnome. For the last one I ask help on the ML but no help so far. Regards, Roelof Wobben

CRUX 3.0 in the cloud (EC2)

Hi Folks, I don't know if anybody here uses Amazon's EC2, but maybe some here will be interested. I've always wanted to run CRUX in the cloud so I built an Amazon AMI (Amazon Machine Image) to allow me to do so. If anybody else is interested let me know and I can share the AMI with you. Chris K.

XDM issue

I installed xdm via prt-get. When I run it, there is nowhere for me to enter my username and password. There is a grey box with the X logo, but nowhere for me to actually type in the credentials. Has anyone else had this issue with xdm from the repos? Does it not come with usable defaults with the expectation that I will know how to tweak it into a usable config? I'm not really asking for support, just wondering if I am the only one to experience this.

SuperCollider is not the only package affected by this issue; I have heard of others as well. At least it's common enough that this exists: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/12523122/what-is-glibcxx-use-nanosleep-a… I am submitting this so that our trusty developers can consider including this option in the Pkgfile for the current version of GCC in [core]. I am not sure if the option will cause other breakage (though it hasn't for me so far), but it seems like it may solve some problems. BTW, I am led to understand that version 4.9.0 of GCC doesn't have this issue. It automatically enables nanosleep and sched_yield on platforms known to support them (like x86_64, for example :) Submitted for consideration. I have no investment in either outcome, though I would prefer not to have to maintain my own personal port of GCC. Thanks for listening.
