I've been developing a set of dash and gawk scripts for over a year to ease my use of ports, prt-get, and pkgutils and have reached the point of sharing what I've been up to with the CRUX community. j_v's encouragement pushed me to start this process, which led me to developing an overview document that I finally put up at http://dlcusa.net/CRUX_prtpkg_Overview.pdf for folks to check out. I found myself doing a lot of blue sky thinking and documenting so we all will have an idea of where its currently heading. I expect that to change as people look at it and how they might use it themselves and how it would have to change for them to do that. I'd prefer we have any discussion right here for the time being. In particular I am curious what onodera or anyone else makes of it in relation to his new prt package that I referenced in the overview. Of course corrections of errors are encouraged, too. pkgmk -us does not work if $source is empty

Hi, all, Is it by design that pkgmk does not generate .signature files for ports with empty $source? I have many ports that pull their source from git repositories, and 'pkgmk -us' seems not working. I think at least Pkgfile should be signed in such case. - phi

Grub error: reboot and select proper media

Hi, I am trying to install Cruz on my uefi comp, I install grub 2 and am told: Warning: cannot open directory 'usr/share/locale' no such file or directory exists Could not prepare boot variable:no such file or directory Installation finished. No error reported Even though it says no error reported when I try to bop up I am greeted with the message :reboot and select proper boot device Or insert boo media in selected boot device and press a key to continue Anyone got any ideas what I am doing g wrong? A tip about rtl8192ce wifi driver in crux 3.3

Hi, For anyone who has encountered serious wifi performance regression after upgrading to crux 3.3, try the lastest kernel 4.10-rc8. Or like me, just keep using the old one. To compile kernel 4.1.13 against gcc 6, you have to: cp linux-4.9.6/include/linux/compiler-gcc.h linux-4.1.3/include/linux/compiler-gcc6.h The broken wifi driver is rtl8192ce, see here for the details: https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/log/drivers… - phi

Opera in Contrib super old?

It looks like the current version of Opera is 43, but the version offered in Contrib is 12. Shouldn't this have been taken out in the great purge a week or two ago?

Hi All, I'm migrating from Gentoo and ArchLinux to Crux-3.3. No problem as regards installation, forced as far as KF5 frameworks, plasma-meta, and applications. Many things do work nearly well, but I do not succeed to set italian language: in Gentoo, for example, I install kde-l10n and then I choose the language through systemsettings, but in Crux I don't find the package. How to proceed? I would greatly appreciate an help. Advanced thanks. Giorgio Cittadini

Which is probably why you are having problems. Several Pkgfiles in that ports collection do the same thing. There is a lot of that in the ports tree so I would guess that what you are trying to do is not possible on crux without massively altering the ports tree and rebuilding everything. There are no USE flags on crux and I am not currently aware of anything like rebuild world. To quote, CRUX is "Slim, stripped of unneeded documentation and files (including National Language Support; CRUX only supports the native language the programs were written in, which is english in most cases)" PS sorry bout the PM and top post, having mailer issues, Chris

I see your problem, but I'm not familiar with those packages. Hopefully someone else on the mailing list will be able to help. Maybe try the mailing list for plasma-desktop?
