Kernel problem

Hi, today I tried to update my kernel from 2.6.20.3 to 2.6.23.12. I used my old config file, but got following error: Kernel panic - not synching: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown block (8,1) Lilo.conf is the same as everytime.
