Isn't snapd reliant on systemd in most if not all cases?   I'd also add that I'm part of an organization that pays for canonical support and after having spent days on the phone with them even they can't really seem to get it nailed down correctly.

I never bothered with snap, I got flatpak in contrib if that might suit

your needs.
