aplay -l output:

amixer gives no output.

It worked fine (without configuration) on Arch. Just had to unmute it.

Hello,

I apologize. I just figured out the Pulse problem. I had an old .asoundrc from
when I was trying to configure Pulse.

The old problem remains, however. I can now launch alsamixer from my normal
user, but I'm not getting sound from desktop applications

What's the output of amixer and aplay -l
(they are in alsa-utils port)?

According to this
http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Matrix:Module-oxygen
Xonar DG does not have hardware volume control, so you should create sofware Master control using .asoundrc or
use Pulseaudio.
This guy managed to make it work with ALSA with a few config files, so you might want to check it out.

Good luck.
