How many generations of rust do I need to keep?

I try to keep my root partition clean of old software packages, but at present I have three generations of rust packages in /usr/ports/opt. I notice that the rust build seems to download a binary rustc package of the previous generation along with the new source, rather than using the native rustc. Is it in fact safe to get rid of old packages as one does for other software? -- Hazel
