i have resolved the issue. it had to do with "VIA PATA" driver which was not enabled by default. i learnt that from Gentoo, the one i am using now. CRUX lacks documentation. i think documentation need to include some information on compiling the Linux kernel. as an example. how about telling this in documentation:
It has been said before, and will probably be said again. CRUX is for experienced users. It is also low on man-power. Thus it makes NO sense whatsoever to waste time and effort on documenting issues that are not specific for the distribution. And compiling a kernel ought to be a pretty good example of something that is generally applicable across any distribution. IOW, a little bit of googling had saved you 7-8 installations of Gentoo.
- frame-buffer modules - enabling "udf" support and compiling "jfs" or "reiserfs" support as built in and why so. - using "ALSA" rather than OSS (deprecated)
More examples of things that aren't in anyway specific to CRUX, and where the experienced user is supposed to know that you can't boot a system without the kernel being able to read your root filesystem and the fact that OSS is deprecated. After all OSS has been deprecated for what, five years?
i know all these because it took me 7-8 installations from scratch before i finally installed Gentoo. Documentation did awesome help.
I guess we are all happy you found something that works for you.
i love the word "simplicity" and that ties very closely to the design of CRUX. i am using Gentoo now only because it has lots of documentation and earlier with CRUX 2.2, "prt-get" failed to handle dependencies, don't know why :-(
Yes, CRUX is simple. Simple however doesn't neccessarily translate into handholding (lots of distro specific documentation.) As for you prt-get troubles, well, just telling us you had "some problem" in the past doesn't really help, does it? All said and done, have fun with your shiny new gentoo. :D //treach
