Byan I thank you so much for your kind explanation, attention and also for suggesting the alternatives for xpdf. I understand and agree entirely with your considerations. I will be more careful from now mostly when I reinstall crux and before posting. I have removed and reinstalled xpdf and now I can open the .pdf files. Best regards and my apologies
