rsync proxy via squid

I would like to setup a squid server to proxy rsync requests so that I can more efficiently sync repos for several crux installs on a slow network. What would be the best way to make sure the ports command uses the squid proxy? I am already using the source mirror in /etc/pkgmk.conf and that works great.
