no mouse and keyboard in MATE

Hello, I installed MATE according to the quick install guide on the googlecode page.Everything went well and the MATE desktop starts.But then the mouse and keyboard are not working.As I start in runlevel 3 the prompt the keyboard is working fine. I enabled config-udev in the kernel. Anyone a idea how to fix this ? Roelof
