Pentium III dynamic frequency
Hello, I have IBM ThinkPad T21 with P III processor model name : Pentium III (Coppermine) stepping : 10 cpu MHz : 896.061 cache size : 256 KB [...] flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 mmx fxsr sse bogomips : 1792.12 clflush size : 32 power management: I tried diffrent suggestion from ThinkWiki [1] but it doesn't work. I.e.: # modprobe acpi-cpufreq FATAL: Error inserting acpi_cpufreq (/lib/modules/2.6.29.1/kernel/arch/x86/kernel/cpu/cpufreq/acpi-cpufreq.ko): No such device # Do you have any suggestion. I've got # crux CRUX version 2.5 with home build kernel (quite obvious in the case of CRUX ;) Wawrzek -- Wawrzyniec Niewodniczański vel Wawrzek Larry or LarryN Linux User #177124 E-MAIL: wawrzek@gmail.com PhD in Quantum Chemistry WWW: http://wawrzek.name MSc in Molecular Engineering JID: larryn@chrome.pl

Sorry, but your cpu doesn't support speedstep (est flag). Only the Mobile Pentium 3 supports speedstep. Its possible to change the frequency with the clockmod driver, but that doesn't save much power cause the driver doesn't change the voltage. regards, Hannes

Thanks Hannes, I was a bit concern about the flag. However, I don't need saving power. At the moment when I turn computer on without the AC the computer clock is lower and even if I turn external power I cannot change the speed. You can imagine that 187 Mhz doesn't give good performance ;) I could change some BIOS setting, but on other hand sometimes I just need terminal to work and even such speed is fine.
