As many of you know I try to port Cinnamon to Crux. But on the road I saw that many things depend on systemd. So I wonder why Crux is one of the last distros who refuses to use it. I ask this because on Cinnamon we have two choices: - use systemd. - use polkit, consolekit and pam. and make our own sysvinit scripts for some services like colord and polkit-gnome. For the last one I ask help on the ML but no help so far. Regards, Roelof Wobben

What are the reasons. and if Crux refuses then I need help on making rc files for the two files I mentioned. Otherwise 3 days work down the drain for me. Roelof

oke, then we have to accept to use Consolekit and friends, And I hope someone can and is willing to help me to make files for the /etc/rc.d/ for colord and polkit-gnome. Roelof
Creating rc scripts is really easy. They are simply bash scripts. Sent from my iPad

I know what they are but on those two I need to know what the service name is. so I can start it. As soon as I know them I can adapt the script I used to manage the service for Consolekit. Roelof
Then find out? It depends on the software... Sent from my iPad

Most answers to problems in Crux can usually be found with some looking around. Even if you're not strong with shell scripts you can normally get something working just by imitating and trying similar shells. The Slackbuilds repository is useful as they list their RC scripts in a straightforward way and they're a useful starting point. Likewise if you do have a systemd distro the .service file will also contain the names and parameters that start the daemon. James

Yes, all of us know by now.

I would recommend you to try a different distribution. Arch Linux uses systemd and probably has a port of whatever you want to use. CRUX is a distribution for experienced users. Or not-so-experienced users that are willing to learn by themselves. Best regards, Alan

Well said Alan and completely agree. Whilst CRUX is both easy and simple from a technical stand-point, this may not seem to from a novice or something that is very new to the Linux ecosystem. cheers James

First off and to not make this post completely OT, I completely agree with you and Alan. I wondered when somebody would break it to Roelof (no offense). Second off: First this stupid "Sent from my Ipad" (which I first thought was ironic and in that case would've been pretty funny) and now html mails. I have to ask James are you some kind of troll? Well, at least you're not top posting I guess ;) Sincerely, Maximilian D.
