Do you mind to send more info about your harware? Maybe something wrong with video drivers?
i am using Gentoo now as i needed some OS to post to mailing list. BTW, here is my hardware: AMD64 on ASUS K8V-MX chipsets: VIA K8M800 and VT8237
Have you tried do this from root account? Normal one?
of course, from "root". i tried 2 installations but same trouble, blank screen.
