i am using CRUX 2.3 i686 ISO. i have burned this onto the CD and whole installation process did not give me nay errors. GRUB installation went OK too. when i give it a reboot, after the new installation, it did not boot. i get this: kernel (hd0,0)/boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/hda3 GRUB: Error 15: File not found i put in the CD, mounted the partitions and found "/boot/vmlinuz" was right *there*. so it was not missing. i checked the /etc/fstab, it looks like this: /dev/sda1 /boot ext2 defaults, noatime 1 2 /dev/sda3 / reiserfs defaults 0 1 ........... .......... then i rebooted again and the same problem. i am using SATA on AMD64, so i tried the "root=/dev/sda3" too but it does not work. what is the problem ? [ during installation, i created the separate "boot" partition so i did do this in that order as advised by documentation: mount /dev/sda3 /mnt mkdir /mnt/boot mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/boot ] -- http://arnuld.blogspot.com/
I normally use lilo. It sounds like a disk order (is your SATA drive the first hard disk?). Also root should be /dev/sda3 if it's a SATA drive. See how you go. Joe

Take the "boot" out since /boot is its own partition. Your filesystem layout in /boot probably doesn't have another boot dir inside it, like /boot/boot/vmlinuz, right? Also, as mentioned in another reply, use sda instead of hda. Try this: kernel (hd0,0)/vmlinuz root=/dev/sda3 Matt (jaeger@freenode/#crux)
