So, you're using *exactly* same kernel source in gentoo and crux, and in gentoo it works, and in crux it does not?
not sure becaus eGentoo folks use "-r" at the end of kernel version. i used 3-4 different kernels in Gentoo and all those went fine. "2.6.19-r3", "2.6.19-r5", "2.6.19-r7", and for Gentoo AMD64 i used "2.6.19-r3 and r7". presently, i used Gentoo AMD64 2.6.20-r7 and CRUX has 2.6.20.3.
Just a wild guess.. Do you have CONFIG_CC_OPTIMIZE_FOR_SIZE=y line in kernel's .config file? If so, try turning it off, recompile, and test.
it is *always* turned off. i never optimize my kernel for size.
I've seen some alsa bugs when -Os (optimize for size) used with gcc-4. Not via chips related, though...
as i said i do NOT optimize. BTW, i do use "-02" when compiling "alsa-utils, and alsa-oss" on Gentoo and never had any trouble i don't understand the reason because CRUX 2.2 work flawlessly. -- http://arnuld.blogspot.com/
