Because the hosts file is for loop back 127.0.0.1 and any machine identification on a network in case of no DNS resolving....../etc/resolv.conf..... please have a look at the man-pages for host.conf(5) and even gethostbyname(3). The CRUX default is the following: $:~> cat /usr/ports/core/glibc/host.conf # # /etc/host.conf: resolver configuration file # order hosts,bind multi on # End of file
