Dear, Can you please give me instructions on how to install Crux from another distribution, i.e., without rebooting? The official Handbook mentions briefly some "Alternative Installation Methods", but then there is no explanation on how they are performed, and the wiki doesn't contain anything related at all. Many thanks, Cleverson

The only way I can think of is using some sort of virtual hosting software like VirtualBox or qemu/kvm. In that case just configure a virtual machine and attach: a) virtual disk to contain the CRUX you will install b) a virtual CD-ROM with the CRUX install ISO connected to it c) some simple VGA device, keyboard, etc. Then boot the virtual CD-ROM and follow the Handbook installation. -Daryl
You can do the following: you download the iso while being in another distribution, loop-mount it and do the same with packed rootfs, then proceed with the normal install procedure using the setup-scripts of the mounted directory. After chrooting in crux-rootfs you can proceed as having it installed by the official iso. Kris Quoting Cleverson Casarin Uliana <clcaul@live.com>:

Thank you. Do I need to make changes to either the scripts or the environment? I noticed for example, by reading the setup script, that the $crux_dir variable appears to be set to /media/crux (actually I don't know shell script very well). Does it mean I must set this variable to the crux directory relative to where the ISO is mounted, or I'm better moving or remounting the ISO to /media after I mount the rootfs? Thanks Cleverson
Its easier to mount it to /media/crux, didn't notice any changes needed to the scripts the last time i tried. Kris Quoting Cleverson Casarin Uliana <clcaul@live.com>:
