Tell Firefox to use neat fonts. My font setting look like this: Proportional: Serif Serif: bitstream vera sans Sans-serif: bitstream vera sans Monospace: bitstream vera sans mono and it looks totally awesome. First of all: What makes a font look good? Maybe _you_ find the font you are using ugly? There is always the possibility of enabling/disabling antialiasing (some people find not using it to be more readable, while others prefer antialiasing). Running X in a high enough resolution is essential.

There are a lot of fonts available, and ports for some can be found using crux.nu. Remember to add all font paths to the xorg.conf. If fonts exist under /usr/share/fonts/..., you will not enjoy them if X only searches under /usr/lib/X11/fonts/... The command «xset q» will display the font paths X uses.
