Hello, Just a quick question, I'm bored of KDE so I thought I'd have a look at Gnome. Its great, but when I plug in a USB Disk, I get the following error: Cannot mount volume. Error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.AccessDenied. A security policy in place prevents this sender from sending this message to this recipient, see message configuration file (rejected message had interface "org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume" member "Mount" error name "(unset)" destination "org.freedesktop.Hal") I'd really like to use the automounting function. I've looked at the FAQ and Gnome Ports pages on the crux site and found nothing about the so-called "security policy" that s preventing it from working. Any help would be really apprechiated, thanks in advance. Joshua Higgins --

Hi. Did dbus and hal worked for you with KDE? Make sure you are a member of the 'plugdev' group (see hal README). regards Hannes -- Hannes Mayer ecarux Computer-Service Cuxhavener Straße 266 21149 Hamburg Tel.: 040 / 98235882 mail: kontakt@ecarux.de Homepage: ecarux.de Steuernummer: 06/276/18018

Aha, right. When I start dbus, i get the following error: Unknown group: "plugdev" in dbus configuration file Unknown group: "netdev" in dbus configuration file If I am correct, this is becuase these groups dont exist! How would I make them, and would this solve the problem?? Thanks, Josh.
Right, I've done a number of things and still cant get it to work. 1. Created plugdev and netdev groups and added myself into them. 2. Created directory /media 3. Tried from root user I'm completely stuck. Any ideas? On 02/06/07, Joshua Higgins <joshiggins@googlemail.com> wrote:

Are the following lines in /usr/etc/dbus-1/system.d/hal.conf ? <policy group="plugdev"> <allow send_interface="org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume"/> <allow send_interface="org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume.Crypto"/> </policy> -- Hannes Mayer ecarux Computer-Service Cuxhavener Straße 266 21149 Hamburg Tel.: 040 / 98235882 mail: kontakt@ecarux.de Homepage: ecarux.de Steuernummer: 06/276/18018
Hello Hannes. That file didn't exist on my system, so I reinstalled hal from the crux2.3cd, added those lines into the /usr/etc/dbus-1/system.d/hal.conf. Then I got a different error saying cannot lock file when plugging in my USB drive, so i chowned the /media directory to nobody, and it worked! Thanks for your help. Joshua Higgins
