Use http://crux.nu/portdb/?a=repo&q=xfce and do read and follow the provided README files (!)

Roelof
For a minimal install, I do
# prt-get depinst xfce4 xfce4-appfinder xfce4-terminal thunar geany
Rex
Oh yes, I forgot: add the xfce repo from http://crux.nu/portdb/?a=repo&q=xfce and add it too to the prt-get.conf file, then use my command to install a minimum XFCE environment. Install some fonts as well, and an icon pack. Rex

I tried to install Mate but the only thing I see is a black screen. mate is not related to xfce repository
For a minimal install, I do
# prt-get depinst xfce4 xfce4-appfinder xfce4-terminal thunar geany
well, thunar is a dependency for xfce4
