please tell us what options you have to work with there, if you're unable to get to a prompt in crux, sounds like tinkering with bios settings may be your only option. on another note, i have pentium 3 boards running from CF cards on crux 2.8 ( i believe). maybe try that version instead? I haven't even gotten to that point. The installation fails before I get to a prompt to format the drive.

Hi,
I'm trying to install CRUX 2.7.1 on a Pentium 3 single board computer with 512 MB of RAM. The data sheet for the SBC is here:
https://www.surplussales.com/computeraccess/pdf/eqp-vmivme-7648-740.pdf.
I'm booting from a CD ROM and after I get to the "boot: " prompt and hit enter everything goes OK until I get to:
* Copying files from squashfs
at which point everything goes haywire. Sometimes I get "cp: read error" messages, sometimes it segfaults, but I've never been able to get past this point.
I should mention that the only hard drive on the machine is an 8 GB compact flash card, I don't know if that's relevant.
Any ideas on whether I might be able to get this to work or not?
Thanks,

Yes, I have access to the BIOS. Should I send all the options to the list here? On Fri, Jul 1, 2016 at 12:28 PM, Steve Volumetric <volumetricsteve@gmail.com> wrote:

I tried a few different optical drives to see if that might be the issue, but no luck. Here are the BIOS options I think might be relevant: BIOS Options for CD-ROM ==================== - Multi-Sector Transfers: [Disabled] - LBA Mode Control: [Disabled] - 32 Bit I/O: [Enabled] - Transfer Mode: [Fast PIO 2] - Ultra DMA Mode: [Disabled] Compact Flash ============ Cylinders: [16522] (interesting that it has a cylinders section for a CF card) Heads: [15] Sectors: [63] Maximum Capacity: 7994 MB Total Sectors: 15613920 Multi-Sector Transfers: [Disabled] LBA Mode Control: [Enabled] 32 Bit I/O: [Enabled] Transfer Mode: [Fast PIO 2] Ultra DMA Mode: [Disabled] Advanced Settings ============== - Advanced Chipset Control - Video boot type [Onboard 1MB] - Enable Memory Gap [Disabled] - I/O Device Configuration - Serial Port A: [Auto] - Serial Port B: [Auto] - Floppy Disk Controller: [Disabled] - PS/2 Mouse [Auto Detect] - Reset Configuration Data: [No] - Installed O/S: [Other] - Large Disk Access Mode: [Other] - LBA Assisted Translation: [Disabled] - Local Bus IDE Adapter: [Both] - Assign Interrupt to USB: [Enabled] - Legacy USB Support: [Enabled] - CardBus Bridge Memory Size: [512 Kbyte] - POST Errors: [Enabled] - Force Hard Reset: [Disabled] I've tried changing a few of the parameters and so far no luck. In particular I tried turning off the DMA access for the CD ROM since I know that the CF card must be set to nodma (see http://edg.uchicago.edu/projects/vme7648/).
