Re: Build a new Linux distrib based Crux 2.6
Hi Clemens, we usually prefer using real names in here... please fix that.
Sorry, I'm Ferret !
I did several LFS installations and (re-)ported the x86 CRUX over to an embedded PowerPC (MPC8540 CPU) some time ago.
CRUX is very good to get some plain Linux knowledge. But what exactly do you want to learn?
First of all, learn how/why CRUX was built (from Per Linden point of view, even if I can easily imagine that a lot of stuffs evolved since then). I'd like to understand his motivation by looking to the code, the scripts ... One of my targets is to build the smallest distro based on CRUX (let say <10MB). If you failed with LFS Don't misunderstand me please. I successfully built distros based on LFS, but the result wasn't satisfying (eg. no package management, no network manager ...).
CRUX propably doesn't make things easier.
Who knows!
Aside of that, you can start by building a new CRUX .iso starting from the latest git repo.
Planned for tomorrow morning. I'll let you know. If you are not satisfied with the results, please come back and tell us what
you are missing. It's quite possible that things can easily added by creating some ports.
Currently, I'm looking to the "ports system" and try to learn how to use/create them. It seems to be very simple and even looks similar to BSD's ports style. Am I right? Regards Ferret
