Subject: [Clc-contrib] "How to join" instructions
Message-ID: <20060104123042.GA32117@titanium>
Hi there,
I've added a section to
https://crux.nu/cgi-bin/trac.cgi/wiki/ContribRules
covering how to join the new contrib collection. It says:
1. Maintain an httpup repository for a while (maybe 2-6 month) to get
used to packaging, following upstream sources etc.
2. Send an application e-mail to the clc-contrib mailing list
To be accepted in the new contrib, an existing maintainer will have to
advocate for you; he will also assist you if you have questions, and
verify that your ports conform with the packaging guidelines. Obviously,
it will be a lot easier to find an advocate if you're a respected member
of the community (mailing list, IRC) already.
I hope that there's some interest from everyone here to be an advocate
from time to time, even if there are applicants which are unknown to
most, or need a "not yet, please check this and that first" kind of
answer.
Thanks for your cooperation.
Regards, Johannes

Well, seems that you synchronize the repositories with httpup support...
I received the similar problem with fetching a large patches and large
footprints from some repos, like mine :)
While fetching a file with wget is ok, httpup driver claims an error :\
Maybe this is problem of my ISP, but since this also happens sometime with
Han's ISP which is known for its strong irons :), I think that the problem
is deeper than that. Ideas?

I never saw that one before.

The timeout setting seems to be too agressive; however it's 30 seconds,
so it looks like httpup failed to download 14122 bytes in 30 seconds,
which is a bit less than 4 kbit/s; where is your repository hosted?

Yep. DNS outage on crux.nu, download problem from your server, climate
change, all related.

For now I have only tagged the following ports:
openoffice-dict-es

The clc box have some routing issues ? Every now and again I get this
message, yet my servers have been going solid and online for weeks.
Strange. THere is nothing I can do, it's online!

Just logged in and got:
$ host crux.shortcircuit.net.au
crux.shortcircuit.net.au has address 202.63.43.238
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached
$
pinging 202.63.43.238 works.
pinging any of ns{1,2,3}.shortcircuit.net.au fails;
host on ns1 gives:
$ host ns1.shortcircuit.net.au
ns1.shortcircuit.net.au is an alias for virgo.shortcircuit.net.au.
virgo.shortcircuit.net.au has address 202.125.46.71
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached
$
pinging 202.125.46.71 works.
Of the three nameservers we got from the hoster, two don't resolve it at
all, and one gives the above error.
Two of the three resolve google.ch just fine; the third fails.
Finally, at home I get:
$ host ns1.shortcircuit.net.au
ns1.shortcircuit.net.au is an alias for virgo.shortcircuit.net.au.
virgo.shortcircuit.net.au has address 202.125.46.71
ns1.shortcircuit.net.au is an alias for virgo.shortcircuit.net.au.
ns1.shortcircuit.net.au is an alias for virgo.shortcircuit.net.au.
which seems to have a bit much redundancy, and the later two seem to be
the ones which host can't resolve.
Now, I have to admit that I don't have enough experience with DNS to
diagnose where the problem lies. I hope someone on this list has an
idea.
I'll try to find an e-mail for the hoster; so far Per was our contact
person, but since I haven't heard from him since mid november, I fear we
have to find another way.
Sorry for the inconvenience,
Johannes

Hi, Alan!
Does the reply to me means that I should also advocate you? :-)
In any case, there some points to note:
- some of your ports have no .footprint or even .md5sum files
- in nss_ldap port are redundant deps
i've found that nss and libsasl2 deps are redundant, at least nss - it's
currently a Mozilla Network Security Services from opt
Also I was not able to find libsasl2 in core/opt/contrib as soon as in
your repo, so one can be confused installing nss_ldap. I've installed
nss_ldap some time ago and founf that is completely useable without
libsasl2.

I'm afraid that prt-get is aware of README case.
So you have to uppercase your readmes.
That's all! No other notices beyond that...
No problem about openoffice aids :)
This is your port anyway. I've published ukrainian one so others are
expected to follow our naming scheme...

Hi folks, I'm sending this to get my httpup repository
(http://pred.dcaf-security.org/ports/) into contrib. Currently
the only tagged ports are pygmy, pympdclient2, empy and libetpan.
Pygmy is a GTK+2 MPD client written in python (using PyGTK)
Empy is a Python templating system, required by pygmy.
Pympdclient2 is a version of mpdclient (for Python) which the Pygmy
developers are working on. It's also a requirement of pygmy.
libetpan is a low-level mail handling library, used by sylpheed-claws
(in 2.0.0 it is required for IMAP support).
Most of the other ports are modifications of other ports, aimed at one
thing or another, such as libpng, which is merely libpng tweaked to
build all-PIC libraries (for the purpose of prelinking).
