I have written a draft for the maintainer guideline which should open up CLC for some new and valueable maintainer. I tried to collect the results of the discussions we had, and it sounds pretty well to me; but please see for yourself: http://clc.berlios.de/doc/maintainer-guide.html I would like to publish this as soon as possible as we've been talking about it for a while now, so please comment. Considering my current and future amount of spare time to dedicate to CLC, I think I could provide maintainance for 10 to 20 ports with *at least* weekly updates. You see I don't hang very often on #crux, I prefer to get in contact through the mailing list(s). Having read both the CLC and CRUX guidelines for port creation, I would now like a chance to prove myself as a maintainer. Most of my ports are game-related as I really like CRUX for playing games amongst other things. My aim is to only submit ports of programs that are mature and relatively stable. A little about myself in real life... I'm a student in Australia currently doing my Diploma of Network Engineering and got into linux a little less than a year ago. Whilst I don't have a great deal of experience behind me, I know how to perform most things under linux and have a good understanding of concepts behind CRUX. The only other distributions I have tried are Slackware and Red Hat (for about a day). So far I've been using CRUX since version 1.0 I don't have a website but I do hang out in #crux (nickname: daniel`) and am on the mailing list too. Some hobbies of mine include bikeriding, surfing and linux. The following ports are ones that I have submitted, however at the moment many of these are out of date and need to be replaced with the ones I currently have sitting on my harddrive. * unmaintained/foobillard * unmaintained/chkrootkit * unmaintained/bzflag/ * unmaintained/zsnes * unmaintained/qstat * unmaintained/mountapp * unmaintained/wmnd Below are some ports that I would like to add in the future. * hping http://www.hping.org/ * xqf http://www.linuxgames.com/xqf/ * scummvm http://www.scummvm.org/ * exult http://exult.sourceforge.net/ * gift http://gift.sourceforge.net/ * giftcurs http://giftcurs.sourceforge.net/ * lua http://www.lua.org/ I would also like to remove the lopster port if nobody else wants it, since I no longer wish to maintain it. * unmaintained/lopster Aside from this, I would also like to assist with updating the following submitted ports that are now out of date. * unmaintained/wine * unmaintained/lsof * unmaintained/xmame * unmaintained/lbreakout2 Look forward to your reply - daniel From jw at tks6.net Thu Aug 21 09:18:44 2003 From: jw at tks6.net (Johannes Winkelmann) Date: Thu, 21 Aug 2003 11:18:44 +0200 Subject: [clc-devel] Application: CLC mantainer In-Reply-To: <20030815192029.7d09a2b8.simonerota@operamail.com> References: <20030815192029.7d09a2b8.simonerota@operamail.com> Message-ID: <20030821091843.GA680@hoc> Hey, On Fri, Aug 15, 2003 at 19:20:29 +0200, Simone Rota wrote: > Hi CLC mantainers, > > I'd like to give some help with the CLC repository, I had several discussions with Simone in the past and believe that he fits well in CLC (even though most discussions were about Evolution of CRUX which is not really something to be realized within CLC :-)). We (those I've been talking to and I that is ;-)) think that it's a good idea to have such dedicated maintainer (e.g. game related), so your application is very welcome. The only contact I had with you [1] is not the kind of attitute I expect from a team player, but I assume this was based on the fact that you were missing your port at CLC :-). There is only one thing keeping you from becoming a CLC maintainer, which is the usage of a realname [2]. If you start using it for your CLC related communication, you'll be a CLC member ASAP. You will soon get you user account for cvstrac from Martin; I'll change the webpage to reflect these changes as well. So from this very moment, the berlios bugtracking is not official anymore. Expect changes in cvstrac on Martins server to reflect our bug categories. Feel free to suggest ticket states etc. if you're missing something. I've looked at Giuseppe's ports, some comments: - scribus: works fine for me with freetype2, I'd suggest to change the 'depends on' line from freetype1 to freetype2. Configure option --disable-nls not needed/supported by scribus. - xfce4-plugins: same as above for --disable-nls. I'd suggest to add a --enable-static=no option instead, because this is the way I've built the xfce4 port and we don't need the *.a libraries. Don't get me wrong here, this is not a vote against Guiseppe, only a review of the ports he send to the ML. regards J?rgen -- juergen.daubert at t-online.de From jw at tks6.net Sat Aug 30 15:26:13 2003 From: jw at tks6.net (Johannes Winkelmann) Date: Sat, 30 Aug 2003 17:26:13 +0200 Subject: [clc-devel] Meta ports Message-ID: <20030830152613.GB3703@hoc.cablecom.ch> Hi there, J?rgen pointed out possible problems due to the fact that gtk2 is now in opt: Dependencies are not listed anymore. I support the second option too, with a couple of considerations: 1. The ideal solution would be to have dependencies listed also in /base and /opt. I know we discussed the thing a hundred times or so, but I'm still think that: - This wouldn't undermine the "keep it simple" idea: standard pkgtools will simply ignore deps. - It would be nice to have the same Pkgfile format for all ports. Of course we can't force Per to change his mind about dependencies in Pkgfile, anyway we (I?) could offer Per's an hand sending him the opt and/or base ports with dependencies line included. (just in case he's interested) That could be a lot of work, but I think that it would be quite a one-time effort, since /base and /opt collections are subjected to less changes than ports in CLC. 2. If we go with metaports, I think we should define a standard to handle such a thing. Ie: fake files to install, location (as you pointed out in the PS). I suggest /usr/share/metaports or something similar (just in case one would create a metaport not strictly clc-related). Another think to consider is uninstall behaviour: pkgrm gtk2-meta would not remove gtk2 itself? If we have a good specification of metaports, these could be very useful for installing certain group of packages, let's say again kde or gnome. I've put up a page regarding metaports some time ago at http://www.varlock.com. Unfortunately I've been quite busy this summer, and I got some exam on September, so I couldn't and can't play too much(at least for the moment) with metaports and other projects. I realize that I spent a lot of words for a small problem, these are only suggestions in case other people too would prefer to implement a complete metaport solution instead of using metaports only as a quick-hack. > Regards, Johannes Bye, Simone
