[clc-devel] CRUXCon 2005
Hi there, As same of you probably remember we had a nice get together in Stockholm last year, discussing issues and goals of CRUX and CLC and preparing some ideas for the future. The experience from the last year shows that it's important to prepare early enough for this meeting, and I'd therefore like to ask your opinion on having another CRUXCon later this year. I've made a list of thing I consider interesting and worth discussing at http://clc.morpheus.net:6999/clc/wiki?p=CruxConAgenda Furthermore, it's always interesting to see the other guys in real life, and I personally liked last year's event very much. The proposed time is november; if we want to do some actual hacking, a duration of a week would be great. Also this allows for more social activities. Last year, we met in Stockholm, with Jay and Matt coming especially from the US. This year's location is yet to be set. To get an idea of the interest, I'd appreciate if interested CLC members to take following survey: -------- 1. Would/Could you attend CRUXCon '05 in november this year? 2. Would you attend even if it was on another continent (US <-> Europe <-> Australia)? 3. Could you attend a meeting with a duration of a week? 4. Do you have any suggestion where it should be held this year? -------- Kind regards, Johannes -- Johannes Winkelmann mailto:jw@tks6.net Bern, Switzerland http://jw.tks6.net

Hi there,
Hey, quick replies to the survey before we start a deeper discussion:
1. Would/Could you attend CRUXCon '05 in november this year? Yes
2. Would you attend even if it was on another continent (US <-> Europe <-> Australia)? 70% Yes
3. Could you attend a meeting with a duration of a week? Yes.
4. Do you have any suggestion where it should be held this year? Italy of course :-) More seriously, the company where I work has a couple of large meeting rooms with bb connection and I'm very confident we can have one for free (or very cheap).
Plus the offices take two floors of a building which includes an hotel, so tactical accomodation is possible. Just an idea, don't want to push Matt to his limits again as during his last trip to Europe. ;) Regards, Simone -- Simone Rota WEB : http://www.varlock.com Bergamo, Italy MAIL: sip@varlock.com

-------- 1. Would/Could you attend CRUXCon '05 in november this year? Yes
2. Would you attend even if it was on another continent (US <-> Europe <-> Australia)? Most certainly. The only exception I see is the case where the total costs are too high (flight + place to stay + conference room).
We might consider paying some money into a pool, to cover the costs for a conference room and level out the travel expenses.
3. Could you attend a meeting with a duration of a week? Sure
4. Do you have any suggestion where it should be held this year? No :-)

Probably. If it's held in the 'States, definitely.

Not a bad idea.
3. Could you attend a meeting with a duration of a week?
It's *possible*, I can't commit to that right now, tho. Not like you guys need me there for more than entertainment value, anyway :)
4. Do you have any suggestion where it should be held this year?
Boston, of course :) Jay Jay Dolan Software Engineer, Systems Analyst Windmill Cycles, Inc. 508.999.4000 ____________________________________________________ Start your day with Yahoo! - make it your home page http://www.yahoo.com/r/hs
I forgot to reply to this, sorry for the delay! :(
-------- 1. Would/Could you attend CRUXCon '05 in november this year?
Yes.

This year I can't make it out of the US due to work but I'm confident Boston or another local location would be doable.
3. Could you attend a meeting with a duration of a week?
Most likely.
4. Do you have any suggestion where it should be held this year?
My vote is for Boston since Jay mentioned it and I've never been there. :) Also, if we need to rent a conference room, I can contribute some money that would otherwise go to overseas plane tickets to this. Matt

I could secure some space at my University for meetings. I could also host 2 Cruxers at my place. I'm also drunk. 8) Jay Dolan Software Engineer, Systems Analyst Windmill Cycles, Inc. 508.999.4000 __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! I'd love to come too, but I'm in Australia/QLD I'd have to save up a few $$$ to get there! cheers James -- -- -"Problems are Solved by Method" -

Convince your employer that it'd be beneficial to you, and therefore to your company, that you attend. That's the only way I was able to attend in Stockholm last year. :) Jay Dolan Software Engineer, Systems Analyst Windmill Cycles, Inc. 508.999.4000 __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Last year we made this an invite only thing, for several reasons. Since we'll probably have more time this year (we only had three days in 2004), we can certainly reconsider this.
As a general remark to those reading this thread, the agenda is mainly covering development issues, so the main focus will not be user problems. If we make this an event open to anyone, those interested to come should be familiar with the issues we're planning to discuss. That said, we'd definitely like to meet anyone interested who's close or decides to take a trip to $location. *nods* completely understand. Though I must point out that I would like to be considered more than just a user, but a slowly learning (poor vision - eyes) developer :) cheers James -- -- -"Problems are Solved by Method" -

Well that's interesting. If it is held in Boston, I know of several Cruxers who would like to join us for at least part of the time: Nick Deubert, Jason Pacheco, and Adam Covati (all have posted to crux@ at one point or another) just to name a few. Maybe they would want to just meet up with us in the evenings, tho.. To accomodate discussion and planning of this meeting, I've created an irc channel: #crux-cruxcon. I've also updated the About CLC wiki page[1], as several other #crux derivatives have sprung up recently. They are each listed there. So, if you wish to discus CruxCon 2005, please join me there :) 1. http://clc.morpheus.net:6999/clc/wiki?p=AboutClc Jay Dolan Software Engineer, Systems Analyst Windmill Cycles, Inc. 508.999.4000 __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
