Hi arnuld, do you have a valid .asoundrc file?
NO. i only have "asound.state" and as i said NO "/etc/rc.d/alsa" file unlike i have for cups and xdm.
Example: pcm.via82xx { type hw card 0 }
ctl.via82xx { type hw card 0 }
i have created this file in my home directory and i am in the "audio" user group. i have created the same file for "root" but same problem :-( no change inproblem. BTW, i forgot to mention and noticed 3 things when i run "ogg123" or mpg321 (if that matters) and they happen with/without ".asoundrc": 1.) it plays the sound (1st "1 sec part") continuously and repeatedly forever. 2.) ogg123 in my case, HANGS in there. even C-c and C-d do not work BUT i can open another Xterm (if i am in X) or go to another TTY and can use "kill -9 PID" command to kill it. 3.) this is the error i always get: "ALSA write error: Input/Output Error error2" it seems like there is no BUG filed yet for this problem. closest i came is this: https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/view.php?id=1622 should i file a BUG now ? -- http://arnuld.blogspot.com/
