Hi,
Since I don't really like where KDE is going, I thought I'd try out gnome, and using the gnome meta port as described on the crux website I installed it, with no problems (but I did use the -if parameter of prt-get).
So after compilation was finished, I started /etc/rc.d/gdm and was greeted by gdm. However, the name input field shows an ellipsis (...) and below that it reads "Authentication failed". I can use the mouse and the keyboard to choose menu options, but the input field seems unable to get the focus so I can't login.
I just started using gnome the other day and I had a similar problem when I compiled for the first time. I had installed a port of vmware-server compiled that depeneded on linux-pam. When I removed linux-pam and recompiled I didn't get that. Check your footprint mismatches and see what extra stuff is being compiled in. If it's okay just use pkgadd to install it anyways. Are you using --install-scripts? -Toshi sry for the dbl post diederick _________________________________________________________________ Climb to the top of the charts!
