udev 0.96 and agetty

Hi. Just tried to update udev port. A few minutes after reboot I got the following messages: Aug 12 17:36:23 zerberus init: Id "c1" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes Aug 12 17:36:23 zerberus init: Id "c2" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes Aug 12 17:36:23 zerberus init: Id "c3" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes Aug 12 17:36:23 zerberus init: Id "c4" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes ... Corresponding to these errors I miss the /dev/vc directory. It seems as if the agetty process from /etc/inittab cannot be started. Has anyone got similar errors? When changing back to udev 0.91 everything works normal again. Best reagards. Markus

Ask not what Crux can do for you but...

Hi Crux users, About nine months ago I decided to compile my own Linux version, so I went over to 'www.linuxfromscratch.org', printed out the documentation, and started to work through it, page by page. It took quite a while, but eventually I had my very own Linux version, which I could adapt exactly as I wanted. I was quite proud of my achievement, and even wondered what I should call my new 'distribution'. Why am I telling you all this, wasting your precious time and bandwidth? Well, while I was playing around with my new, custom make Linux, I realised something quite important. I had, what you might call 'a moment of clarity'. I realised that everything I changed on my new 'distribution', I was changing so that it was exactly like Crux. Then I asked myself the question 'why go to all this trouble, if I already had a Linux distribution that worked just the way I wanted it to work?' The answer was obvious. Developing an open source project is a thankless task. I know, I have spent the last two and a half years developing a new webmail, only to see it abused and misused. (I will soon be releasing it as open source for those who are wondering what I am blabbering about). You spend hundreds of hours, doing the best work you can (free of charge), and all you seem to receive in return is dissatisfaction and sometimes even abuse. You begin to wonder if it is worth all the trouble. Let's get to the crux of the matter (pun intended). A famous American president once said: 'Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country'. If he had been a Linux user, he might have said: 'Ask not what your distribution can do for you; ask what you can do for your distribution'. I have been using Linux since RedHat 3.0.3, and I changed to Crux when it was 0.9.3. I like the philosophy behind it, and I like the way it works. udev 096 problem

Hello! I've recently updated udev 095 to 096 from the ports tree, and my system hangs on XWindow starting. (no mouse, no keyboard, hard reset) I couldn't figure out what's wrong, but it's something to do with the udev rules. I've tried an older 50-udev.rules file and Xwindow works well. Could somebody help me with that plase? thanks kodiak

Postfix port (Cyrus SASL support)

Hi, I've forgotton to add Cyrus SASL support to the Postfix port. According to the Release Notes of 2.3.2 the Postfix-with-Cyrus-SASL build procedure has changed but I didn't notice that change. I am sorry. If you need Cyrus SASL support it's very important to update your postfix build. Regards Viper

CRUX PPC 2.2rc1 'iBook G4 Memorial Edition'

The upgrade functgion it's based on x86 one and it's not tested. Newer Apple iBooks reached full hardware support. All the packages are hardly optimized for G4 cpu and compiled with aggressive CFLAGS, some configuration files are personalized too, pci.ids and usb.ids are updated and there is xorg-7.1 from Tillman's repo. As editor there is nano and vim and mc too, there is no more pine. For x11r7 repo it's suggested to follow: http://crux.nu/Main/InstallingX11R7/ but mesa3d port is changed: http://cruxppc.sunsite.dk/forum/viewtopic.php?p=572#572 and if you are looking for a working xorg.conf.. it's here: http://cruxppc.sunsite.dk/forum/viewtopic.php?p=571#571 There is no bluez, alsa, airport extreme fw and cd burning tools.
