CRUX 2.5 fails to boot on vbox

Greetings, I am trying to get CRUX 2.5 installed in Virtualbox 2.1.0 on a Windows XP host. The system boots from the ISO, but hangs at "* Loading Modules... IDE", and I get a generic "VirtualBox has encountered an error and needs to close" message. This happens on two different machines... A centrino laptop and an AMD64x2 desktop. Other OSes such as OpenSolaris, OpenBSD, and Fedora boot just fine. Any suggestions on how to correct this? Thanks! Ruben Reyes

Hi guys. I've compiled my own distro based on CRUX. It has some limitations but i did it for myself so it is. Is there someone who could test it for bugs and maybe usability? If yes, then i could place it somewhere on web server.

Some problems with crux upgrade.

Hi all I a few minor nuissance after upgrading my crux install and was hoping anybody can provide a way to debug. 1. After upgrading my kernel, ACPI sleep no longers puts my computer to sleep. the moon LED will just flicker and turns off completely. It used to work with crux 2.3 kernel 2.6.22. Downgrading my kernel is not an option anymore due to the sata driver change. 2. Bluetooth dongle used to work in crux-2.3. The bluez release has also change so I am guessing it's somewhere in there is the problem 3. Brightness changes from 100% to dim when you switch from X to a virtual terminal and back. I have been tracking a bug report in kernel.org and I believe that a fix will be released in 2.6.29. Computer type: Lenovo 3000 notebook Video : intel i915 Please note that these are mostly just some stuff I noticed. I haven't really had the inclination to do any deep debugging, except for a bit googling in case some else has noticed this types of problems before. thanks fernan -- http://www.fernski.com

inetutils & ipv6

Hi, Having spent half the night upgrading the last (and most crucial) of my CRUX boxes I just couldn't get the new inetd to work, it simply refused connections. After some trouble shooting I realized that if you have ipv6 enabled (this is the only box having it, don't ask) inetd binds its sockets in IPV6_V6ONLY mode. This was not what I expected, and certainly not what I wanted. The solution for me was to configure with --disable-ipv6. Stop calling CRUX a source based distro

Is it just me or does anyone disagree that CRUX is a source based distro. 1. Release ISOs are shipped with packages. 2. Applications are installed from packages. Consider FreeBSD's ports system (and possibly pkgsrc) software is installed directly from the source. An intermediatary package is only built if requested. This in my opinion is a truly source based method. CRUX in my eyes is simply a package based distro with no central package repository. For the case of the single user CRUX may appear to be source based due to the absence of a central package repo, but this is naive. I have often had many CRUX boxes all with similar software installed, it would be a horrible waste of time to build packages on every single machine. Naturally you would have a build machine that all other CRUXen could access packages from. Package based distros with a central package repo are still at their roots, source based. Someone had to compile the source and ship a package. So called package based distros such as debian, archlinux and fedora still have tools for building their preferred package type from source. The only difference is that CRUX doesn't have the man power (or want) to maintain a central repo and enforce dependency hell on it's users. </rant> -- Lucas Hazel <lucas(a)die.net.au>

Hi as predatorfreak tried to pus sha256 and CRUX devs shrugged it off and didn't do anything well how much more proof do you need that md5 is insecure?
