Hello all, I tried to comment this in the irc but nobody give me an answer or opinion about. I will try to explain it as best as I can. I was thinking in the fact that there are a few meetings and they seem to be organized in the moment (may be some points are thought before it). In my opinion can be a good idea to make a little list with interesting points to be discussed in a meeting and try to put them priorities. I thougth in 2 meeting in a month, but this can sound hard because time is quite expensive in some cases. May be we can make an effort and try with one meeting per month. My first point of this is that seems hard to maintain core/opt ports and by now, there are only 3 sys/core devels (maintaing xorg too). I see communication one of the best ways to keep alive a project (IMO organization, in all senses, too, but if the first point is hard, this is harder). I can see some people (most of them in contrib), doing a great job and seems that contrib isn't a repo to trust, I can't say anything about this because I feel that contrib maintainers keep well done ports updated and I feel that their work isn't well valued. With this email I am trying to get people (core/opt/contrib members, maintainers, users, retired members,...) opinion about what I said. I am sorry about my english level, I tried to explain it in the best way and with the less words to don't bore anybody. I hope this can be a start point to try organizing a bit some points. /etc/pkgadd.conf update needed?

Hi! While updating some stuff, I had a brief look into /etc/pkgadd.conf: -----8<----- UPGRADE ^etc/mail/cf/.*$ YES UPGRADE ^etc/ports/drivers/.*$ YES UPGRADE ^etc/X11/.*$ YES ----->8----- Since core/sendmail got replaced by core/exim, the ^etc/mail/cf/.*$ should be removed from core/pkgutils-5.31.0/pkgadd.conf AFAICS. Snapshots of repos

Hi there all. I've been wondering,... I'm borrowing some desk space at a company that has a really restrictive Internet access policy. A result of which is that I cant access anything over RSYNC. And I'm sure I'm not the only one with this issue. Whats the chances the core, opt and xorg repo's could be tarballed up and put up on http/ftp nightly, sorta like how the NetBSD pkgsrc guys do it? -- I have heard there are troubles of more than one kind. Some come from ahead and some from behind. But I've bought a big bat. I'm all ready you see. Now my troubles are going to have toubles with me! -- Dr. Seuss

It was long time ago where I've tried to build an ISO from scratch. Due to some lazyness I stopped to dig in that script which does much more than I want/need. I am looking for a solution to build an ISO from an existing installation - with it's current kernel and a selection of packages. Bootable with an setup in a way that the CRUX handbook applies as usual. I am not sure IIRC that somebody did this already? It would be easy to provide then a custom built CRUX for quick'n'dirty deployment and 'special' cases like Jorgs. Any pointers are welcome. :-) Okay... booting a spare machine... let me check my mileage. Regards, Clemens

Hi Using Crux 2.4 new installation I am trying the last weeks to get a new compiled crux 2.4 version with the SAS component to work . I failed so many times. I tried with the document as described on the crux website Building ISO . I always failed with the make bootstrap so I never get this to work My question , is there someone who maybe has already a precompiled 2.4 with the SAS components compiled in the kernel. LIBSAS ( for the controller LSI 1064E). I am really confused about this . my sas disks are not be recognized by the standard ISO crux 2.4. When I go after the crux website Building ISO it takes 1 2 days for the bootstrap and the process just stopped with error 127 .. So , maybe someone have a compiled iso with the components I need and maybe I can download the iso somewhere. Thanks for your help Regards /Jörg

Problem with reloading / SIGHUP some services

Hi there! I just realized that i.e. dovecot and exim /etc/rc.d start/stop scripts' reload function doesn't work over here on CRUX-2.4, bash 3.2.33(1). I had to use the /bin/kill binary, otherwise, I get: $ ./exim reload ./exim: line 19: kill: SIGHUP: invalid signal specification My bash's internal `kill` doesn't seem to recognize SIGHUP. Can you please verify?! The following patches work around the problem, but I want to understand whether this behaviour is expected or erratic. Thank you! Up to date ISO build instructions

I built an "optimized" Crux 2.4 using the following parameters: export CFLAGS="-march=prescott -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" export CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}" export MAKEFLAGS="-j3" I then built core, opt and xorg and mastered an iso image per these instructions: http://article.gmane.org/gmane.linux.distributions.crux.general/2561/match=… The new system is up and running fine. I'd like to do it this way instead: http://crux.nu/Public/BuildingISO (the git pull must be done inside the iso dir, btw) but I could use more up to date instructions. Anyone have an "official" list of commands that will cause the git sources to build? I've had success with some that I could figure out: make kernel (custom for my hardware) make core make opt (pruned to match the crux iso) make xorg (pruned to match my video hardware) but not with make bootstrap make iso etc. Thanks, Chris Any, yes, I realize that my "tuning" probably did little or nothing; in fact I've probably just wasted many hours on a worthless endeavor. But, sometimes you've just got to prove things to yourself the hard way. The joke is REALLY on me if -march-prescott is indeed identical to -march=i686 :)
