KDE and UTF-8

Hi all, I sometimes have to edit UTF-8 documents with characters with some rather exotic diacritical marks. Now when I view a UTF-8 encoded web page with those characters for instance in Firefox, all the characters are there. However, the same page in Konqueror shows rectangles for a lot of them, and Kate just displays blanks. Is KDE using all of X's fonts? Does someone know where I can tell KDE what to display? Broken Ports and Fixes

cups - the ftp site doesn't seem to work for me, changing the url from ftp:// to http:// fixes it. lynx - 2.8.5 is out of date as of 10/10, changed the version to 2.8.6 in the Pkgfile and it worked fine. openssh - the main site in canada is not responding, neither were the first mirrors but I did find this link worked: ftp://openbsd.wiretapped.net/pub/OpenBSD/OpenSSH/portable/openssh-4.4p1.tar… db - apparently the requests for the patches from sleepycat.com just return the berkeley db page from oracle - this one is still broken for me, anyone else run into this?

Xorg performerce

Hello, Trying to resolve problem with gnumeric I upgrade a nice piece of system. After that I found some performers issue. I think its related to X. All start of any graphical application take ages (even Rox windows do not start immediately as it previously). The Xorg has been upgrade from 6.8.2 to 6.9.0 [1]. I found only one error in Xorg: (EE) MGA(0): [drm] Failed to map DMA buffers list I think Tilman has very similar problem with modular version of Xorg. Gnome install script fails with vte and a missing XML::Parser

Followed the instruction in the FAQ for installing Gnome on CRUX. Exellent guidelines but the install script fails with vte: [stuff deleted] checking for perl... /usr/bin/perl checking for XML::Parser... configure: error: XML::Parser perl module is required for intltool =======> ERROR: Building '/usr/ports/contrib/vte/vte#0.13.0-1.pkg.tar.gz' failed. -- Packages where install failed vte Press <ENTER> to continue .. So somehow it is related to Perl not knowing where its XML::Parser is: bash-3.1# /usr/bin/perl -e "require XML::Parser" Can't locate XML/Parser.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.8/linux /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.8 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8/linux /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl .) at -e line 1. The only Parser.pm found is in another subdirectory, not mention in @INC: bash-3.1# find /usr -name Parser.pm -print /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.8/Pod/Parser.pm Could someone please guide me as to how to a) fix this Perl XML::Parser problem? b) run the rest of the Gnome script or should I just rerun it? opt/j2re and opt/j2sdk renamed

Hi everybody, Just a quick note to inform you that we renamed j2sdk and j2re resp. to jdk and jre; you may need to manually remove the old package with pkgrm and install the new one. Gnumeric

Hello, I tried to install gnumeric and found some bugs. 1.) (it not a bug) in ports it is 1.4.3 version, but the newest is 1.7.1. (1.7.1 is in hnc repo). 2.) You cannot build 1.4.3 because abi of libgsf has been changed. (I found some info at [1]) "gog-axis.c:1683:58: error: macro "GSF_CLASS_FULL" requires 10 arguments, but only 7 given gog-axis.c:1686: error: syntax error before 'GogAxisType'" [2] I change the version to 1.7.1 but the configure complains about No package 'libgoffice-0.3' found Requested 'libgsf-1 >= 1.14.2' but version of libgsf-1 is 1.14.0 No package 'libgsf-gnome-1' found libgoffice can be found in goffice [3] package by hnc [3]. I change libgsf version to 1.14.2 and build if without any problems. It quite interesting but there is no libgsf-gnome-1 in hnc repo. I changed the Pkgfile for libgsf package (building with gnome support): ./configure --prefix=/usr \ --disable-gtk-doc Gnumeric configure worked ok, but its make died: make[2]: Entering directory `/media/inny/tmp/work/src/gnumeric-1.7.1' make[2]: *** No rule to make target `po/am.po', needed by `gnumeric.desktop'. Installing Gnome fails with gstreamer-plugins-ffmpeg not compiling

Except for one page (see below), there wasn't any clue on either the Net or the Gnome forum, as to what might be the problem and how to fix this: Following the instructions in http://crux.nu/Main/GnomePorts to the letter, I got stuck during a new install of Gnome with gstreamer-plugins-ffmpeg failing to compile: [stuff deleted] ffplay-ffplay.o: In function `main': ffplay.c:(.text+0x3e18): undefined reference to `XOpenDisplay' ffplay.c:(.text+0x3e4b): undefined reference to `XCloseDisplay' collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make[7]: *** [ffplay] Error 1 [make leaving all directories ] make: *** [all] Error 2 =======> ERROR: Building '/usr/ports/gnome/gstreamer-plugins-ffmpeg/gstreamer-plugins-ffmpeg#0.10.0.2-1.pkg.tar.gz' failed. I tried to see if there were any hints in http://crux.nu/Main/Gnome212to214 but there were none to my knowledge. The following web page: http://www.nabble.com/Bug-375266:-ffmpeg:-FTBFS:-Missing--lX11-link-flag-t1… claims the remedy to be to link ffplay against -lX11. If this is what is missing, I am not sure how to apply this piece to the package itself or to the install script mentioned in http://crux.nu/Main/GnomePorts. Python 2.5

Hi all, because there was some rumor on #crux and I got some private email's as well, I would like to clarify some points regarding Python 2.5. Python 2.5 is a major release not compatible with 2.4.x. Updating to it means at least, that all dependent ports have to rebuild, which is IMO not acceptable without a release change of CRUX. Therefore this update will not come before CRUX 2.3. For those who need, for whatever reason, Python 2.5 short-term I've prepared a port [1] in my private repository. For now the port depends on sqlite3 [2], because the wrapper is part of the python sources.
