Results of using -j3 when building ports

I had mentioned previously that I would post my results of using "export MAKEFLAGS=-j3" in the pkgmk.conf file. My pkgmk.conf contained the following: export CFLAGS="-march=prescott -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -msse3 -mfpmath=sse" export CXXFLAGS="-march=prescott -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -msse3 -mfpmath=sse" export MAKEFLAGS="-j3" Here is a list of the ports that I compiled and the results (no comment = success). The system was a dual-core laptop with 2GB RAM. remove dependencies with prt-get

i checked the manual page of prt-get and also the prt-get user manual at: http://jw.tks6.net/files/crux/prt-get_manual.html#install_remove WANT: i have installed Xcfe4 package and it has somewhere around 12-15 dependencies of its own. i wan to remove all of those dependencies too. these dependencies are not shared by any other packages. i can't remember the whole list of dependencies. GOT: "prt-get remove xfce4" removes only Xfce4 package not those 12 dependencies. how to remove all those together ? -- http://arnuld.blogspot.com/

Windowmaker and GNUStep

I have noticed GNUStep packages in nym's collection, but they are slightly outdated. Has anyone written ports for the newest stable version, and have them working as expected? And if anyone does, Do you simple call Gworkspace, and fiend in the .xinitrc before calling windowmaker. I can't seem to find any information on their Website as to how to integrate GNUStep's additional functions with windowmaker. <rdking77(a)gmail.com>

Hannes, it took my whole day from 10 AM to 8 PM to solve this problem. i am posting it here so that some other newbie can find it helpful when he will search the archives :-). i tried but was not able to find the Gentoo Kernel sources. hence, i downloaded the latest Linux kernel 2.6.21.1 from www.kernel.org and also applied the "git10" patch to it but it failed to compile on my hardware. then, "something clicked in my brain" and i downloaded the 2.6.20.11 kernel and compiled it successfully but the real trouble was ALSA. so i installed the necessary ALSA tools and gave "ogg123" a whirl and YIPPE...YAA... it worked. i chose EXACTLY the same options that i use to but in this case it worked. now there are no more messages of "disabling IRQ # 5". strange thing is that, now VIA runs on IRQ # 20 not IRQ # 5, out of my head. i am posting here my relevant "dmesg" anyway, in case anybody wants that. hey.... you know.. i love SIMPLICITY, that is why i came back to CRUX from Gentoo. i was literally shocked when somebody on this list told me that "/usr/src/linux" symlink to original "/usr/src/linux-2.6.20.3" is technically not a good idea as it does not follow the KISS principle and i knew that CRUX and Arch do not use this symlink where as Fedora and Gentoo use it, so they must not be following the path of "simplicity" and i always wanted a distro designed with simplicity in mind from the beginning with a good package management system and which makes you learn GNU OS internals a.k.a UNIX philosophy and you Hannes you told me that i can use my own kernel and replace it with what i got from CRUX 2.3 CD. hence, i dropped the Gentoo idea and installed CRUX and played with the kernel and Google and found the solution after spending whole day. now i have learnt some things :-) thanks to all those who helped. sh-3.2$ dmesg | grep IRQ ACPI: IRQ0 used by override.
