I want to install the gnome-port on my OS CRUX 2.4 with command: "prt-get depinst --install-scripts gnome-light", but installation failed on "gnome-desktop" package. Port libxml2 is installed. Wrong ownership when extracting files CRUX 2.4

Hi all, I'm new to this list and have been using CRUX since version 1.0 on servers in my personal domain solan.se. Thanks to everyone that have been involved in the release of CRUX 2.4. I don't know if I have found an issue here with CRUX 2.4, ... I have problem with ownership when extracting (tar) files on a box running CRUX 2.4. Restored files will always get ownership root.root. I have tried the -p flag, but nothing seems to help, and yes, users/groups are there in /etc/passwd and /etc/group. On my CRUX 1.0 (yes :) I still have one up and running) and CRUX 2.1 boxes I don't have problem with tar, ownership and extracting files. If I compile the CRUX 2.4 tar package without the tar-rootp.patch, things works fine, my restored files will have correct ownership. Comments? I have tried to find some info about it. Thanks, Lasse

I am building a custom Crux ISO as detailed here: http://crux.nu/Public/BuildingISO If my resulting ISO is too large to fit onto a CD-R, will it work on a DVD-R? Thanks Chris

Moving away from Crux

Hi everyone, I have stopped using Crux. I maintain a small ports repository which is used by a number of people, or so my apache logs tell me. It can be found here: http://www.diederickdevries.net/repo/ I will keep it on line for the time being, but I will not update it anymore. Kernel problem

Hi, today I tried to update my kernel from 2.6.20.3 to 2.6.23.12. I used my old config file, but got following error: Kernel panic - not synching: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown block (8,1) Lilo.conf is the same as everytime. How do I install x system?

Hello everyone, I just installed crux 2.4. I am in the early stages of learning the package management, config file locations, etc. So, please be easy on me. At best I am an intermediate linux user, but I like the crux approach. My goal: to setup my laptop using a fluxbox setup. Currently I have a textual system...bare bones. I may also like to install kde. Where do I start? I did read the KDE page on crux website, but I had problems using the kdebase script. when I run : # prt-get depinst --install-scripts kdebase I receive an error that 'kdebase' could not be found. Thanks
