Can't get the sound going at all. I installed fresh CRUX 2.3, KDE with kdemultimedia package, esound, compiled Soundcard (Realtek ALC850 integrated in NVidia 6100) support in kernel, esound has started, still have a message popping up in KDE: Device: default can't be opened for playback (No such device). The same message does not appear, when logging as root, but still no sound. Sound support in kernel: $dmesg ... X configuration troubles

i finally installed CRUX but when i did this: Xorg -configure my screen went blank and never came back. i know it takes 2-3 seconds till X writes its "xorg.conf.new" file but i did wait for 5 minutes and my screen never came , it HUNG right there , blank in my face. then i tried "Ctrl-Alt-backspace" and nothing happended, i did "Ctrl-Alt-Del" and nothing happened. i tried those key combinations for 5-7 times and nothing happened then after 2-3 minutes suddenly it rebooted. what was wrong ? how could i make it right ? -- http://arnuld.blogspot.com/

Maybe something wrong > with video drivers? i am using Gentoo now as i needed some OS to post to mailing list. BTW, here is my hardware: AMD64 on ASUS K8V-MX chipsets: VIA K8M800 and VT8237 > Have you tried do this from root account? wxpython

Hi CRUXers, I tried to install wxpython from yhafri or hnc ports. They have two different versions, but in both cases I get the same error message. I'm not sure what does that mean and how to fix this. The printout is quite long, so temporarily I put it under http://www.mml.ch.pwr.wroc.pl/wielgus/error.log I upgraded from ports python and wxgtk : python 2.5-1 wxgtk 2.6.3-3 Don't laugh at me, but I'm still sitting on 2.0 box :) (just in case you would need this info :) Could anyone check this and point out what am I missing ? One more thing: I was just curious, and downloaded wxpython sources manually from Sourceforge. They compiled smoothly and without any errors. But so far I didn't try to install binaries, would be probably better to have them from ports. Take care, Pawel

CRUX lacks documentation. i think documentation need to include some information on compiling the Linux kernel. as an example. how about telling this in documentation: - frame-buffer modules - enabling "udf" support and compiling "jfs" or "reiserfs" support as built in and why so. - using "ALSA" rather than OSS (deprecated) i know all these because it took me 7-8 installations from scratch before i finally installed Gentoo. CRUX 2.3 does not boot

i am using CRUX 2.3 i686 ISO. i have burned this onto the CD and whole installation process did not give me nay errors. GRUB installation went OK too. when i give it a reboot, after the new installation, it did not boot. i get this: kernel (hd0,0)/boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/hda3 GRUB: Error 15: File not found i put in the CD, mounted the partitions and found "/boot/vmlinuz" was right *there*. so it was not missing. i checked the /etc/fstab, it looks like this: /dev/sda1 /boot ext2 defaults,noatime 1 2 /dev/sda3 / reiserfs defaults 0 1 ........... .......... then i rebooted again and the same problem. i am using SATA on AMD64, so i tried the "root=/dev/sda3" too but it does not work. what is the problem ? [ during installation, i created the separate "boot" partition so i did do this in that order as advised by documentation: mount /dev/sda3 /mnt mkdir /mnt/boot mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/boot ] -- http://arnuld.blogspot.com/
